Call for Proposals on the theme of:
“International cooperation in disaster recovery and disaster prevention in global context”

The Great East Japan Earthquake on the March 11th and the subsequent accidents at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plants have left Japan not only with serious damage but also renewed debate on such critical issues as disaster prevention, governance for nuclear safety, as well as energy policy. Thanks to the global media coverage and analysts’ detailed reports, the debate has garnered world-wide attention.

In response to these new circumstances, the Japan Foundation announces a request for proposals of bilateral or multi-lateral collaborative research projects and dialogue projects among researchers, experts, international exchange organizations, NGOs and NPOs on such themes as disaster prevention and disaster recovery.

Requested theme of projects:

“International cooperation in disaster recovery and disaster prevention in global context”

Please see examples of specific project ideas as follows;

- Analyses of Post-3/11 Japanese politics, economy, society and culture
- Roles of media in disaster reporting
- Inheritance and global sharing of disaster experience
-  Education and culture for disaster prevention
- Mental care for disaster victims (participation of disaster victims themselves preferred)
