A great place to work.” The Role We are looking for enthusiastic and experienced Japanese teachers to join our Foreign Languages team. This role focuses on teaching face-to-face adult group classes with most lessons taking place in the evenings and some on Sunday mornings. As part of IH London, you’ll have the opportunity to work in a supportive, international community of teachers, with access to resources, professional development, and a lively student community. Responsibilities Plan and deliver engaging, high-quality Mandarin lessons to adult learners. Design creative and effective learning materials. Monitor and assess student progress, providing constructive feedback. Create an inclusive and motivating classroom environment. Collaborate with colleagues to maintain high teaching standards. Complete attendance records and progress reports as needed.
Essential Skills & Requirements Essential Native or Proficient Japanese speaker Good written and verbal communication skills in English Initial Japanese teaching qualification Minimum of 2 years teaching experience to groups Bachelor's degree Must have the right to work in the UK and be currently based in the UK
Desirable Skills & Qualifications 420-hour Japanese language teacher training course or equivalent Japanese teacher training course Experience teaching using Minna no Nihongo Bachelor's Degree in Japanese Language Education Japanese Language Teaching Competency Test Experience in teaching in-company and one-to-one courses

| Description | Nihongo Club Cambridge is a charity group (charity registration number: 1136278) that provides heritage language education for children from young children to junior high school students from Japanese-speaking families living in and around the Cambridge City/Cambridgeshire at Bar Hill Primary School on the outskirts of Cambridge.Parents are as Volunteers are a central role in the running of the club, and face-to-face lessons are held every Saturday using Japanese textbooks and teaching materials. From this year, the Nihongo Club has also established a course for students who study Japanese as a foreign language as an annex to the Nihongo Club. Recently, there has been an increase in the number of children who are very interested in Japanese culture, and as a result of many enquiries, Japanese Language Course for Y5-Y11class has been established as a first attempt for the Nihongo Club, offering face-to-face classes for upper primary to junior high school students. Saturday Japanese teacher Location: Bar Hill Primary School, Grayside, Bar Hill, Cambridge CB23 8DY Start date: April 2025 Job Description: As a full time Japanese teacher, you will teach using a teaching methodology based on the teaching of the inherited language. You will teach using a combination of textbooks, teacher-selected materials and your own curriculum, using materials appropriate to the level of the class you teach. Each year, you will participate in regular meetings and study groups with teachers, including reviewing and organising the grades you are responsible for. As the number of students in the Japanese language club varies from year to year, some classes are joint classes (two grades together) and the teaching environment varies depending on the grade for which you are responsible. Currently, there are between 2 and 10 students per class. - Japanese textbooks and original teaching materials are used. - One hour and 30 minutes of class on Saturdays, once a week. - Preparation of teaching plans - Preparation of homework - Liaising with the committee (checking student attendance) - Liaison with and guidance of substitute teachers in case of absence (curriculum) - Liaison with parents (consultation on lesson content, homework, student levels, etc.) Working hours: Every Saturday 10am-11.30am (except during half-term and English state school holiday periods). Qualifications required for this position: - Motivated to teach the heritage language. - Able to communicate verbally and via email in Japanese with students, teachers, parents and committee at all times. - Experience in teaching Japanese language to general Japanese-speaking students at home, overseas or in Japan, such as Japanese schools, supplementary schools, companies, groups, online lessons, etc. - If it is not convenient for you to teach at your place of work, you may switch to online classes. Must be able to work from home. (e.g. internet access and a PC/tablet device. No loans will be provided by the club).
