Description of Programmes to Support Research and Staff
Until this year, the Japan Foundation also invited applications for the Grant Programme for Research and Conference for Japanese Studies and the Visiting Professorship Programme for Japanese Studies. For 2007-8, these two programmes have been integrated into a comprehensive new programme, the Support Programme for Organisations in Japanese Studies. Other Japan Foundation Support for Research
The London Office hold limited funds to support research in the field of Japanese
studies under its Local Project Support Programme. Support is restricted to specific
onshore costs.

The Japan Foundation Endowment Committee
The Japan Foundation Endowment Committee, the secretariat
for which is based at Sheffield University, also offers
small research grants within the fields of the humanities
and the social sciences. It operates from income from
a special donation made through the Japan Foundation for
the promotion of Japanese studies in higher education
UK. Awards are tenable only in degree-awarding institutions
in the UK. Applicants must be members of staff of such
institutions; application may not be made directly by
students. Funding is not available for coursework or master
degree dissertations, or to support course development.
