Conference Support
Grant Programme for Intellectual Exchange Projects (RIE-RC)
This programme provides grants to non-profit making organisations (e.g. institutions
of higher education, research centres, think tanks, NGO/NPOs, cultural organisations)
wishing to carry out international intellectual collaborative projects (e.g. international
conferences, seminars, workshops and training) that address common global problems,
increase mutual understanding and tolerance between nations and contribute to
the development of a more open and just society. A significant Japanese involvement
and participation is expected. Multilateral and interdisciplinary exchange projects,
with participation from a wide cross-section of society are given higher priority.
Contact with the London office is advisable before applying.
For further details on this programme and application forms either contact us
or go to our Tokyo site.

Other Japan Foundation Support for Conferences
The London Office hold limited funds to support conferences in the field of Japanese studies under its Local Project Support Programme. Support is restricted to specific onshore costs such as honorarium, publicity, hire of venue etc.
For further details on the Local Project Support
Programme contact Neil
Cantwell.
From time to time the Foundation in London will organise small conferences, symposia or workshops within the field of Japanese studies and details are posted as and when they occur.

This seminar series will look at the start of Japan-UK relations through the contributions made by individuals at the time. Getting under way with a look at Thomas Glover and Nagasaki, and moving on to William Adams (三浦按針) among others, this series will examine the contributions made by British people to modern Japan, and the contributions made by Japanese people to the UK in the Meiji era and beyond, while examining the beginning of Japan-UK Relations as part of the Japan-UK 150 celebrations marking 150 years of friendship between Japan and the UK.
The Movers and Shapers: Japan - UK Relations series will run from June 2008 - December 2009 with a series of seminars starting on 11 June. Information about specific sessions will appear on our What's On page when it becomes available.
