1. Description of the Translation and Publication Support Programme

For publishers only towards the translation of major works from Japanese, or to the publication of books on Japan written in languages other than Japanese. For translations priority is given to titles on our “recommended list of works”. Fields covered include the humanities, social sciences and the arts but exclude the natural sciences. Publication must take place between 1 April 2007 and 28 February 2008 and the grant is a percentage of the translation fee or the direct publication costs. Applications for “translation and publication” are also acceptable.

Deadline for applications: 20 November 2006

The London office can give advice to British publishers wishing to know more about the Japanese market. The booklet Practical Guide to Publishing in Japan is available upon request from this office.
