Japanese Studies Seminars
From time to time the Japan Foundation London organises small conferences, symposia or workshops within the field of Japanese studies and details are posted as and when they occur.

This seminar series examines the contributions made by British people to modern Japan, and the contributions made by Japanese people to the UK in the Meiji era and beyond, while exploring the beginning of Japan-UK Relations as part of the Japan-UK 150 celebrations marking 150 years of friendship between Japan and the UK.
So far it has included:
- Professor Brian Burke-Gaffney talking about Nagasaki and Madame Butterfly: Historical Background and Implications for the Famous Opera.
- Mr Michio Henmi giving a presentation on William Adams – Blue Eyed Samurai, Meeting Anjin
- Professor Ian Nish recounting the life of Sir Ernest Satow: Diplomat and Linguist.
- Professor Richard Bowring exploring the life of Basil Hall Chamberlain – An Amused Guest In All
- Dr Andrew Cobbing providing a lecture on The Chosyu Five.
The Movers and Shapers: Japan - UK Relations series will run from June 2008 - December 2009. Information about specific sessions will appear on our What's On page when it becomes available
